It was the penultimate round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama and it was another great race for Black Sheep Racing. Kenton King and Laura Ely both earned class victories while the three team drivers earned six top-ten results over the course of the two wheel-to-wheel races. Additionally, BSR made history this past weekend winning both the Pro/Am and Am categories in the same class during the same race.
“What a weekend for us,” explained Chris Stiffler, Black Sheep Racing Business Manager. “Race wins in two different classes, pole positions, multiple podiums, and several top-ten finishes are a great way to end the second to last event weekend and build momentum toward the final round in a few weeks’ time.”
The weekend started with a pair of practice sessions on Friday, but it was qualifying where the Black Sheep Racing drivers turned up the wick with Kenton King earning the pole position in the 992 Pro/Am while Ely slotted into the second position in the 992 Am class with Josh Conley lining up on the inside of row six for the start of race one.
Returning to the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca Saturday, the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend was a victorious one. Both King and Ely were the drivers to beat in their respective classes with King topping the 992 Pro/Am podium with Ely winning in 992 Am to make it two victories in one race for the BSR squad. Josh Conley was once again in the top-ten in class with a solid eighth-place result.
Race two rolled off the grid on Saturday afternoon and it was Ely who found her way back onto the podium, this time in the second position capping off a terrific weekend. King was also back in the top-five adding a fourth-place finish from his win Saturday morning while Josh Conley secured another top-ten result, crossing the line ninth.
Stiffler added, “Congrats to everyone at Black Sheep Racing on the success throughout the season. One more weekend to go to finish off 2023 strong.”
