Winning the 2022 Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West championship, Laura Ely and Black Sheep Racing will be back again in 2023. Continuing their partnership with the Division 1 College Racing League Association, Ely will compete behind the wheel of a 2023 992 GT3 Cup machine with a new racing number, #209, as she returns to the series as a past champion and looks to earn back-to-back titles in Porsche competition.
“I’m super excited to be participating in the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West series for my second season,” explained Ely. “This year I will be competing in the 992 Amateur class and am looking to repeat as the series champion.”
As part of three driver program for most of 2022, Ely’s results propelled her to the Driver Championship, but also elevated Black Sheep Racing to earn Team Championship honors. With both titles under one roof, competing teams and drivers will be looking to get revenge in 2023.
“We had a great year last year but as it goes in racing, you’re only as good as your last win,” added Business Development Manager Chris Stiffler. “We know that people will be out to get us next year but if we continue to do all the little things right, we will continue to have success. As a team, we are excited that the holidays are now over and a new season is on the horizon.”
Ely continued, “This will be my fifth full season in a Porsche single-make series. The team has done a great job supporting me and my co-drivers. Having taken the 991 Class and Team championship in 2022, I believe we are now one of the top teams in the series and we will have a strong contingent of drivers for 2023!”
The first green flag for the Porsche Sprint Challenge West Championship and Black Sheep Racing will be over the April 21-23 weekend at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort.
